At the latest Ordinary Council meeting held 23 April 2026, Council approved the public advertising of the final draft Coastal Hazard Risk Management and Adaptation Plan (CHRMAP).
The CHRMAP identifies risks and subsequent management strategies for coastal hazards within the pre-defined study area. The study area extends from the Exmouth Golf Club in the north, to the northern end of McLeod Street in the south, encompassing Town Beach and the Exmouth Boat Harbour. Town Beach was previously identified as a coastal erosion hotspot due to rapid erosion, and the proximity of this erosion to public assets between 2007 and 2015.
The CHRMAP aims to improve coastal planning and management within the Shire and will better align the Shire’s planning framework with State Planning Policy. Assets identified and considered within the CHRMAP include both natural and built assets owned, and or managed by a combination of stakeholders including the Shire of Exmouth, State government and the private sector. It also considers areas designated for future development and subject to Shire planning and development conditions.
