DOUBLE-WIN FOR EXMOUTH’S AVID YOUNG READERS

Published on Thursday, 29 April 2021 at 2:32:00 PM

The Exmouth Public Library participated as one of 130 public libraries across Western Australia in the third annual Golden Feather Hunt. Over 15,000 feather-shaped bookmarks have been hidden in children's and young adult books to reconnect them with their local library while hunting one of five golden feathers.

The Exmouth Public Library is popular with the community. It regularly offers free film screenings and storytime activities, so it's no surprise that the first young avid readers discovered some winning feathers already!

Kelsie Devlin found the Sapphire Feather, and Holly Dixon found the Emerald Feather, which couldn't be searched for in 2020 due to COVID-19 related closure of the library. Both winners won an instant book price, and there are still some more white feathers hiding amongst the shelves. All can be used as an entry ticket for the chance to win a Spot Prize.

The Golden Feather Hunt will be open until 7 May.

COMMENTS ATTRIBUTED TO THE SHIRE – SHIRE PRESIDENT MATT NIIKKULA

"Our library is a beacon of light and way more than shelves of books. The staff offers an ever-changing range of cultural resources for the community, and they have become a type of social and cultural institution. From parents with their young kids up to our most senior residents, our community makes use of the facility, and the Council is happy to see the continuous uptake in visitation."

"As a Council, we recognise the importance of our public library for our community and are aware of the user range and diversity. The potential impact of programs such as early education and storytime support literacy in our community and is strengthened through fun competitions like the Golden Feather Hunt."
