Last night, the Shire of Exmouth recognised the outstanding efforts of the town's volunteers and sports stars at an awards presentation evening at the Ningaloo Centre.

Ninety-five people attended the 2021 Shire of Exmouth Community Volunteer and Sporting Awards, which recognised the contribution of volunteers in all community areas, with awards presented in seven categories.
Community members, organisations and sporting clubs have been encouraged to nominate volunteers and high achieving sportspeople from the Exmouth community who deserve recognition for their inspiring and exemplary voluntary contributions during the preceding two years; 42 nominations were received.
The awards have been presented in the following seven categories, and winners have been chosen by a committee and announced at yesterday's presentation event.

  • BHP Young Volunteer of the Year – Darcie Watts for her contribution to the Exmouth Amateur Swimming Club and the Exmouth District High School (EDHS)
  • Santos Sports Star of the Year – Lilly Watts for her achievement in the sport of swimming for Exmouth Amateur Swimming Club
  • RAC Association Club of the Year – Exmouth Touch Football Association
  • Tattarang Committee Person of the Year – Paula Hart as the Secretary of the Exmouth Basketball Association

  • Shire of Exmouth Exceptional Service Award – Jenni Dennis for her commitment to Exmouth community across multiple community groups (e.g. PCYC, EEJFC, EDHS P&C, EGC little athletics, community events)

The awards evening was supported by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries through the Every Club program and the Exmouth Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Individual awards were sponsored by BHP, Santos, Woodside, RAC, Raytheon, Tattarang and the Shire of Exmouth.

"The Shire of Exmouth Community Volunteer and Sporting Awards 2021 acknowledges the value and important contributions of the many locals that truly are the fabric of our town. We are fortunate to live in a community with so many people willing to give their time and effort to enhance our town's social, cultural, economic and environmental well-being. All nominees have positively impacted the lives of others and the Exmouth community."

"These people are the unsung heroes of Exmouth. They don't do this for the recognition but because they want to make our community a supportive and vibrant place to live. Especially after the last year, where every sector, including our sporting clubs and not-for-profits, was impacted by COVID-19 in one way or another, these people came back to volunteering and kept encouraging others to support each other and their local community; which is truly inspiring."
