SHIRE OF EXMOUTH CONFIRMS UPGRADE TO THE EXMOUTH TOWN BEACH PRECINCT, A FIRST OF MANY NINGALOO ECLIPSE LEGACY PROJECTS

The Shire of Exmouth is excited to release its plans to upgrade the Town Beach Precinct after the early state budget announcement by the Hon. Roger Cook MLA confirmed the requested funding support of $470,000.

With less than 365 days out from the Ningaloo Eclipse, the Shire of Exmouth, together with lead agency Tourism WA is finalising its project plans for envisioned infrastructure projects and events surrounding the Ningaloo Eclipse.

After the official State Government's announcement, the Town Beach Upgrade is the first project to hit the ground running, revitalising the town's iconic location. Exmouth Town Beach is the essence of the Exmouth lifestyle and is frequented by large populations during the peak holiday season and residents all year round.

While Council is excited about the many opportunities the rare Hybrid Solar Eclipse is creating for local and regional businesses; it is also mindful of creating long-term benefits for the community.

The Town Beach Upgrade works will include:

  • Establishment of a vibrant food market precinct
  • Remodelling of the public open space
  • Road treatments to reduce dust
  • Upgrades to power and water services
  • Installation of additional lighting, tables and seating
  • Restricting vehicle access into the public precinct to ensure a safe, people-friendly space in one of the State's premier foreshore locations.

The project driven by the Exmouth Shire is shovel ready with all approvals, and funding agreements are in place.

Funding partners are:

  • State Government with $470,000
  • BHP with $450,000, secured by the Exmouth Chamber of Commerce (ECCI)
  • Local Roads and Infrastructure Program (LRCI) with $278,000

COMMENTS ATTRIBUTED TO THE SHIRE – SHIRE PRESIDENT DARLENE ALLSTON

“Council is committed to advocating for long-term beneficial projects, and the Town Beach Precinct Upgrade ticks all those boxes. The highly accessible beach within the townsite is a hotspot for young families and will be more vibrant, safer and used by many people to come. Long after the Ningaloo Eclipse Event."

"Detailed talks about projects, possible events and much-needed infrastructure upgrades have been ongoing for several years. The Exmouth Shire has been advocating for our community behind the scenes and during various ministerial visits. Luckily we've been listened to: CEO Ben Lewis and I have been invited by the Deputy Premier, the Hon Roger Cook MLA, to discuss those needs after his recent visit to Exmouth in March.”

“The Ningaloo Eclipse's path is a rare example where visitors will exceed the local residential population of 2,728. The Exmouth Shire identified accommodation, hospitality and infrastructural challenges which have to be overcome to ensure a safe and positive experience for visitors and locals alike - and to avoid reputational or irreversible environmental damages. And we are looking forward to sharing the possible solutions with our community as they are confirmed. Until then we encourage everyone to visit the dedicated Ningaloo Eclipse website ningalooeclipse.com.”

“Due to the significant appeal of Exmouth and its remoteness, many visitors are likely to have an extended holiday in Western Australia, coming for the Ningaloo Eclipse but visiting other key tourist attractions across the State.”
