COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTING HOW CREATIVITY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON A LOCAL LEVEL

Following the opening of award-winning photograph Gary Meredith's solo exhibition in the Tantabiddi Travelling Gallery, the artist revisited Exmouth to hold an intimate photography workshop at Exmouth's Town Beach.

Focussing on natural lighting and perspectives, 15 locals took the chance to learn how to utilise their smartphones and take more than just selfies, especially when they're out and about in Exmouth and surroundings, encountering wildlife, enjoying serene beaches and taking their chance on great picture opportunities.

Council organised the community workshop as a part of the exhibition from January to May 2021 and is looking forward to realising similar engagements in the future, trying to highlight how creativity can make a difference on a local level.

ABOUT GARY MEREDITH
Gary Meredith was awarded the Australian Nature Photographer of the Year 2019. These awards and subsequent exhibition celebrate Australia's best wildlife images as judged by highly respected photographers from Australia and abroad.

COMMENTS ATTRIBUTED TO THE SHIRE – SHIRE PRESIDENT MATT NIIKKULA

"Exmouth has a thriving community of wildlife photographers; many enjoy this activity as a hobby while some make a living from it. All are trying to capture that fleeting moment of wonder that nature can create."

"Exmouth's Council is committed to providing engaging, interactive and inclusive events for all levels of expertise. So while professional photographers had the chance to meet the Perth-based artist at the exhibition opening to talk about his work and experience, the intimate community workshop offered the opportunity to get creative of an entry-level and amongst all ages."
