MEDIA RELEASE

Exmouth is best known as a vibrant tourist destination where travellers from all over the world flock to swim with whale sharks and experience the untouched nature of Cape Range National Park. Those who call Exmouth home know the true magic is found in the tight-knit community.

Since 2018, the Shire of Exmouth has promoted sustainable and diverse community building through a series of grants available to groups and clubs in three categories: Major Event Sponsorship, Community and Sporting Grants, and Donations. The Community Grants program aims to promote local economic development by supporting the creation of autonomous community groups through the following types of grants:

  • The Major Events Sponsorship Program offers grants of up to $5,000 for events that benefit Exmouth significantly economically. Applications are accepted year-round.
  •  Community and Sporting Grants of up to $1,500 are available to not-for-profit and incorporated groups to support community capacity-building activities and events. Applications are accepted twice yearly. Round 1 applications close on 22 September 2023, and Round 2 is open from 2 February - 2 March 2024.
  •  Donations of up to $500 are open all year round.

Since the inception of this program, the impact these grants have had on the community is remarkable. The Shire has supported major events, such as the Exmouth Eagles Football Club's 30th Anniversary, Exmouth Cultural Arts Centre's ArtQuest, and Exmouth Golf Club's Pilbara Ladies Open. Community and Sporting Grants have funded a coaching course for the Exmouth Gymnastics Club and club gazebos for the Exmouth Amateur Swimming Club, among many others.

The Shire of Exmouth understands that a strong community is the foundation of any successful town. By investing in the local community, they aim to enhance the quality of life for residents and create a welcoming environment for all.
