IMPORTANCE OF EMPLOYING AND TRAINING LOCAL YOUTH

Published on Tuesday, 4 February 2020 at 10:33:00 AM

The Shire of Exmouth is actively working to improve employment opportunities for local youth by working closely with the Exmouth District High School and encouraging the employment of year 12 graduates within the local government. For example, at the beginning of the year, three Year 12 graduates were employed in permanent positions with the Shire and we continue to support school work placements throughout the year.

In 2019, the Shire of Exmouth was successful in receiving a Regional Traineeship Program Grant with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), which made the employment of a Tourism Trainee (SIT30116 Certificate III in Tourism) in 2020 possible. The grant program is dependent on the Royalties for Regions funding and is only available through a competitive funding round process, managed by DPIRD, and provides valuable qualifications and work experience that benefit the specific needs of a community.

Kathleen Fish, Manager HR & Governance, said: “The Shire of Exmouth is a multi-disciplined organisation and can support school leavers to gain a broad range of workplace experience combined with training opportunities to assist them reach their full potential.”
