EXMOUTH RECREATION CENTRE CHANGE ROOM UPGRADES

Council supported the submission of a Community Sport and Recreation Facilities Fund (CSRFF) grant application to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSCI) for new change room (unisex) facilities at the Exmouth Recreation Centre aiming to deliver a more gender-equitable environment.

Female participation rates in sport and active recreation remain lower than males, particularly in community sport and recreation club settings. The facilities at clubs play a crucial factor in encouraging female involvement. Historically, sporting facilities have been designed primarily to meet male participants' needs; thus, community sport and recreation facilities are becoming outdated. In a vast range of venues, they do not provide the range of amenities that attract and sustain women and girls throughout their lives.

The upgrade will support increased social interaction and community inclusion for females of all ages, providing physical activity opportunities and improved health outcomes.

The Shire of Exmouth has contributed the remaining funding with the project cost totalling $285,000.
