Pre Primary/Primary
The Primary section of Exmouth District School comprises children from Kindergarten to Year 7. There are approximately 12 four year olds, 40 five year olds and 250 children in years 1 - 7. The four year old children come to school either on Friday for a full day or two half days. This depends upon the numbers of 5 year old children and can change from one year to the next.
The five year old children attend four full days from the start of term 2. During term 1 they have a transition program of half days, gradually building up to full days. There are two classes of five year olds in the centre. It is a very pleasant centre with a lot of play equipment and other resources.
The children in years 1 - 7 occupy the north facing wing of the school. The number of individual classes depends upon the number of children. We offer a specialist teacher for at least two subjects, Physical Education and Science. As a Marine and Dive school we also offer a snorkelling course for years 5 - 7, Discover Scuba in year 7 and a Marine and Dive unit in the upper primary years.
The grounds are spacious and we are always looking at ways of improving the facilities for the children. We are in the process of increasing the number of computers in classes. We have a strong discipline policy and we ensure children behave in the correct manner. We encourage parents to come to the school to help or participate in school activities. School assemblies are held three times per term.
Secondary
Years 8, 9 and 10: Currently we are moving from a Unit based curriculum to an Outcomes based curriculum. Subjects in offer for students of these ages include the standard: English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies as well as a large range of subjects from the areas of Home Economics, Manual Arts, Arts, Physical and Health Education, and Business Studies.
Years 11 and 12: Our Upper School consists of approximately 30 students who study a variety of TEE and Non TEE subjects on a face to face basis or through distance education.
Most subjects not available at the school are made available to students by the School of Isolated and Distance Education.
In addition to the above, we offer Marine Studies and Nautical Studies, which incorporates an Open Water diving programme. This gives our school a distinctive interest area which makes the most of our local surroundings.
Education Support: To cater for a small number of Education Support students we have on staff an Education Support Teacher and four part-time teacher aides.
Our School ethos is to realise the full academic, social and creative potential of each student by striving for excellence in the provision of support to students and teachers and the maintenance of an appropriate learning and teaching environment.
