Beaches

The Tamarisks

32 kilometres south of Exmouth on the Exmouth Minilya Road.
Hunts Canning Company originally built a fish canning factory here, canning mullet and whiting. A devastating cyclone swept the gulf and wrecked the factory. This and the low price of fish made it unprofitable to can fish at Learmonth any longer.

M G Kailis then built a prawn fishery on the concrete base which remained from the original buildings. However, due to problems with seabirds in the flight path of the Learmonth airstrip, the Government of the day requested that the factory be re-located. Operations ceased in November 1972 and the Kailis fishery was moved to its present location.

This is a nice shady picnic spot with a beautiful safe swimming beach. No camping is permitted in this area.
