Shire Works Depot
The Shire Works Depot was constructed when the Shire of Exmouth was first gazetted in 1964. This Depot was destroyed during Cyclone Vance in March 1999 when winds up to 267 kilometres/hour were recorded at Exmouth.
Roads
Residents should report to the works department any damage to roads, footpaths and cycleways, broken or missing direction signs and obstructions to ensure that prompt repairs may be undertaken.
Crossover (Entrance to Properties)
Owners may apply to the Shire for a contribution towards the cost of having a crossover constructed to provide vehicular access from the roadway to their property. Council has a policy detailing the standards of a crossover and further information can be obtained from the Works Manager. Council provides a rebate of $400 on presentation of receipts for an approved crossover.
Verge Enhancements
Council also has a policy for verge enhancements and a rebate applies again here for approved works. Note: a proposed verge enhancement MUST be approved by the Works Manager before commencing works to be eligible for the rebate.

Signage
Street signs, directional signs and tourist information signs within the townsite are erected and maintained by Council. Business signs require approval from the Works Manager before erection.
Sand Pit
Council operates a sand pit on Murat Road approximately 10 kilometres north of town. To obtain material a key is held at Council's Works Depot and can be accessed by contacting the Works Manager or Storeman during working hours.
A Levy of $1.00m2 is charged for sand.
Arboretum (Volunteer Tree Workshop) – Council has recently commenced this project and all works undertaken in this area is done by volunteer labour.

Restricted Burning Periods
A restricted burning period exists within the Shire of Exmouth from 1 October to 30 April the following year (inclusive). Permits are required for burning of bush and grass anytime between the aforementioned dates. Firebreaks
These must be installed and maintained between 1 October and 30 April the following year (inclusive) as required by the Shire Firebreaks notice.
When and How to Burn
Barbecues
Gas and Electric Barbecues are permitted to be used at any time. Solid fuel barbecues are prohibited on days of Very High and Extreme Fire Danger.
Garden Refuse and Rubbish
During the restricted burning period, small heaps (up to 1m3) of garden refuse may be burnt on the ground between 6:00pm and 11:00pm but only after a 5 metres wide break has been cleared around the fire site and at least one able bodied person is in attendance at all times. A permit is not required. Burning is prohibited on days of Very High and Extreme Fire Danger.
Fire Danger
No burning of any type is permitted on days of very high or extreme fire danger. If you are uncertain at what level the Fire Danger is at, contact the Shire office or the Chief Bush Fire Control Officer.
